Fifteen well-known Australian academics send a letter to the Australian government urging the improvement of relations with China

Xinhua News Agency, Canberra, May 26 (Reporter Yue Dongxing Bai Xu) Fifteen well-known Australian scholars recently wrote to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Huang Yingxian, urging the Australian government to improve relations with China.

The jointly signed open letter was published on the Australian "Pearl and Thrill" website on the 26th.This website is an Australian online platform for discussing Australian domestic and international public policy.Many Australian scholars and former officials have written articles on this website to express their views.

The open letter said that the change of the Australian government will bring opportunities for the improvement of Australia-China relations.The 15 academics who have studied China for a long time believe that the new government may avoid the previous government's approach.When dealing with diplomatic relations, what Australia needs to do is two-way communication, not "microphone diplomacy", less provocation and more international cooperation.

 

The open letter pointed out that a China policy that also takes into account the strategic concerns, diplomatic and economic interests of major powers may better and more sustainably ensure Australia's national and economic security.The 15 scholars urged the Australian government to actively adjust its relations with China.

The signed scholars of the open letter include Ben Hillman, director of the Centre for Chinese Global Studies at the Australian National University, Jane Gurley, a professor at the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University, Jocelyn Che, a former Australian diplomat, and Australia-China relations research at the University of Technology Sydney.
